I almost hate to write this post... I feel like I did not fulfill my duty that well as a wife and mother this time around. Literally no cards, no food made- nadda. I just was so so so busy- what with unpacking, watching the kids, cleaning, and various photography things. Now if I had been in Adam's shoes, I would have been SOOOOOOO mad. But Adam was very understanding and sweet- especially when I said I would make it up to him by getting him THIS:
That is the new iPhone 4, to be exact. It had to be something big- something special and something he REALLY REALLY wanted to make up for my lack of effort. So although he did all the work with the ordering, I paid for it and he is such a happy man.
But if you're willing to stick around a bit longer to hear a really interesting story about how he actually RECEIVED his iPhone, well, here you go:
He woke up at 4am on the day of pre-ordering. The Apple site crashed many times over the course of the day, there were security breaches... but finally at 4pm he was finally able to complete the pre-order process. Card was not charged, but an authorization took the money out of the available balance in my account and we didn't think twice about it- just expected to get our phone on June 24th when they were officially out.
Well, that following Saturday Adam got an e-mail from ATT saying that his order had been canceled- for no apparent reason- and that in order to get the iPhone he would have to wait until mid- July. Imagine your heart-break if this had happened to you with the toy (or camera in my case) that you wanted most in the world. He was devastated. Heart broken. Turns out we weren't the only ones either- it happened to a LOT of people!
Adam was actually so upset that he wrote a couple of e-mails to Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple. Adam pretty much told them the story and said he "felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest" (yes he really said that) and then dared him to exceed his expectations in customer service as much as his products had. He is known to reply to e-mails and such, but we never expected what followed.
The following day, Adam got a call from an Apple executive who said Steve Jobs had received his e-mail and wanted to make sure he got his phone as soon as possible. And guess what? On June 25th, the day after the phone came out and OUR ANNIVERSARY, he got his phone. And Adam is now a customer for life. And he is very very very happy with his present!
Just to see him so happy was really enough of an anniversary gift for me-- but with it being our 5 year anniversary we knew we had to do SOMETHING special... so we went to Malone's. It was delicious- although I've never been one to spend a whole lot of money on food. I would have been just as happy with Chick-fil-A. But it was still lots of fun! We also have a little something planned for this weekend, but I will write about that after it happens!
