Strange Weather

Ever since our family moved to Kentucky, I've known that Kentucky has weird weather... but man. This year has been the craziest by far! First off, the hardly any snow thing. I was sad that we didn't have a white Christmas. That has happened before but we at least have snow in January and Febrary! Or ice storms. We had one ice storm this year that I can remember (ironically the one day I slipped and fell on the ice) That's definitely unusual especially since we had a lot of WARM days! Tornado warnings in the winter are unheard of but we had them this year and that was also crazy. The few days we DID have snow wasn't much and the kids were pretty bummed because they never got to play in it. By the time I'd get the energy to take them out to dress them and take them out, the snow would be completely melted. I'd definitely say though that the strangest weather pattern we've had was right at the very beginning of this month.

Friday, March 2nd 2012: Apparently the worst tornadic storm since 1974 was going to be hitting Kentucky. We had been warned and it definitely gave us a scare. We packed up some blankets, pillows and a few other things and headed to my in-laws house who had a basement. I wasn't personally going to be taking any chances. My in-laws had set up a nice little area in their basement and we waited for the tornados. TOR-CON, who gives out a rating system of probablity for tornados gave central Kentucky a 9 out of 10. Honestly, it never ever got that bad in Lexington. Unfortunately, everyone around us wasn't so lucky. There was some really terribly hit places not too far from us and it broke our hearts. Towns demolished.

Saturday, March 3rd 2012: Nice spring weather- a BEAUTIFUL day! I can't remember the high- but it was a very nice day. Most of Sunday was also pretty nice but it quickly got cold by the end of the night...

Monday, March 5th 2012: We woke up to 4-5 inches of SNOW!!! That's the most we've had ALL YEAR!! I have many friends who had already packed up their winter gear and toys... ours were also in boxes. But since this is the most snow we've had in a while, I HAD to let the kids play. So I dug out our own cold weather clothes from boxes and sent the kids out with Adam. They had SO MUCH FUN. They built a snowman, made snow angels and then I made them some cinnamon rolls and almond hot chocolate! It was the perfect winter day we never had in the winter lol.

Tuesday, March 6th 2012: Highs in the 50s... snow was ALL gone- including our snowman- by the end of the day! But we enjoyed it immensely while it lasted.

I am so curious as to what this summer will bring... I only expect more crazy weather!

It's Not East being Green

Green isn't a favorite color among the Noe children. Especially when it's food. It could be the yummiest of things, but if it's green, noses are automatically turned up. Landen is a little more open than Joselyn. In fact the other day we went to Cheddars to celebrate the fact that my sister-in-law Suzanne is having a little girl... and Landen was feeling michevious and stole some broccoli off my plate. He thought it would bug me I guess. When he didn't get the reaction he wanted he ate it. That was sure to bug me. He made a weird face at first- probably the new texture- but then he realized he actually loved it! So he kept sneeking and sneeking until there was no broccoli left on my plate. That was the first time EVER (since he was a little baby) that he showed interest in anything green.

Then came St. Patricks Day today. I wanted to make it fun- so despite my kids' dislike of the color green, Adam and I thought it would be fun to have green chocolate chip waffles for breakfast. I told the kids all about St. Patricks day so that they would all be prepared for the explosion of green. Landen must have overcame his fear of green because he dug right in and LOVED his waffles.

Joselyn just observed... when she saw Landen giggling and laughing over their yumminess, she decided to take a small bite of the green food. Just to see. To her surprise, the green waffle was actually good- or even better. DELICIOUS!

So green food was a success today :) Too bad it wasn't as nutritious as we would have liked for green food. And it's definitely not filled with antioxidants.

After breakfast, we went to see if the Leprechaun had left any green treasures. The kids followed the trail of green Andes mints to find out...

The Balloons were a hit! After playing with them for a while they discovered two green buckets- one with boy stuff and one with girl stuff! Joselyn found a green bucket that had a fairy, green bubbles, stickers, frog notepad, green bracelets and "gold". Landen's had the bubbles stickers and gold too- but he also got a green car and green football- which he would not let go of all day. In fact, he's sleeping with it right now.

This was the first time I attempted any kind of St.Patricks day tradition- and it was really really fun. I don't even really know any kind of history behind the holiday, but any chance to see my children giggle in delight like that gives me a good reason to start a fun tradition!

Joselyn's First Letter in the mail :)

While Joselyn was at Preschool today I checked the mail to find a letter for her! I saw that it was from her Sunbeams teacher. I couldn't wait to tell her she had some mail!! When I went to pick her up, I found out they had learned about the Post Office today at Preschool! How convenient, huh? So I told Joselyn she had received a letter and she was SO excited to go home and open it!

Rainbows and a horse with rainbow hair was definitely the thing to put on Joselyn's letter.

Isn't that just the sweetest thing ever?? Her teacher sure knows how to make a childs day!! I'm so grateful that someone as sweet and caring as that is taking care of my child in Sunbeams. Here is what the card said:

It's 5 am...

It's 5 am and I am awake... mostly because I fell asleep at 9pm last night and second because Joselyn woke me up so I could tuck her back in and fix her blankets. I couldn't go back to sleep. So what have I been doing? I've been posting a few recent sessions on facebook and reading some of my favorite blogs!

I've seen some really cool stuff, so I thought I'd share

Bene "drill" and other funnies July-August

Some funny things being said and done in the Noe household lately:

On Labor day our family met up with my parents at a park for a barbecue. While there, Joselyn got eaten alive by mosquitoes. (as did I) Poor little thing had about 10 bites on one of her arms and 1 on each of her hands. I was so mad at myself for not putting bug spray on her. Anyway, she's been itching up a storm today and tonight as I was putting her to bed she told me she wanted some medicine. Here's our dialogue:

Me (talking to Adam): Can you please get me the Benedryl for Joselyn?

Joselyn (in a very concerned voice): No mom, a drill will hurt me! It's a tool! (Bene-drill)

Joselyn: I LOVE you so really much!
I am SO love you!
Buh-llller-fly (trying really hard to get the diction and pronunciation right on "Butterfly"

-Singing some primary songs:

-(Love is spoken here) ... mine is a home where every hour is blessed by the strength of Preschool power
She even corrected me when I sang "Priesthood" and said "No, mom, say Pre-school."

-(Teach me To walk in the Light- 2nd verse) ... home to his presents to live in His light... she asked me specifically to sing the song about Presents and I couldn't figure out which song she was asking for so I had her sing it for me. Ah-hah! moment.

-After finding out one of my best friends Kasey is having a baby girl, I told Joselyn and she screeched, clapped her hands and in the most excited voice I've probably ever heard from her said "OH!!!! I am sooooo EXCITED!!" (8/30/10)

- I don't know if I've ever documented this before, but when Joselyn smiles really big or laughs really hard she gets a small little dimple on her right cheek.

-A few days after we got rid of the pacifiers (which we tied to balloons and sent up into the sky) Joselyn had an ah-hah moment after Watching Little Einsteins. She said something like "Mom, I know! We can get the little Einsteins to take their rocket into the sky and get the balloons and our pacis!!!" (8/16/10)

-After Joselyn freaked out when a fly landed on her, I told her not to worry. Flies don't have teeth and they can't bite! Well, later, she was playing with some ants and I was afraid they WOULD bite her, so I told her to stop playing with them. She looked at me and said "Mom, they can't bite me. Ants don't have teeth!" (7/25/10)

-Landen calls Joselyn "uh-uh" and it's the cutest thing. MUST get this on video before he grows out of it! He'll say "I love you uh-uh"

-When Landen concentrates really hard- like when he is building a tower out of blocks- he'll raise his right eyebrow really fast.

-Landen has never been much of an ice cream guy. When I got them a 49 cent ice cream cone from McD's the other day, he started eating it from the bottom of the cone. He definitely likes the cone much better than the ice cream. (8/16/10)

Family Rock Out

I found all the toy guitars in the garage today so we had a Noe Family Rock Fest.

It's not the hitting his head and getting hurt part that makes me laugh... it's that he totally watches Adam's every move and then copies it to a T. We couldn't (CAN'T) stop watching that video after the fact. And we laughed and laughed.

I just LOVE how Joselyn got into it in that last video... I especially loves the way she says "Rock OUT dad!" and you'll have to excuse the no clothes thing. It was right after dinner and right before PJ time. I also have to say that my husband is a total hottie of a rock star. I'm sure this is a side of Adam that NONE of you have seen! Or ever thought you would see! Yep- he's pretty fun like that.

I love the rain and a few other things...

Like most of you here in central Kentucky, I woke up to loud thunder and pouring rain this morning. It was around 7am that I really "woke up" and realized that the kids were still asleep. They usually wake up around 6:30am. I laid in bed just listening to the storm outside enjoying the peacefulness of actually just laying in my own bed and snuggling under my covers... and I didn't get out of bed until 8:30am! I must say that it was such a nice way to start my day. I'm in a much better mood if I can just start my day at my own pace.

I got a lot done- cleaned a lot, got some much needed unpacking done (though I still have a LOOONG way to go) and most exciting- planted some flowers in the front of our house! (pictures coming later)

Life is so good lately. I'm enjoying every minute with my kids although I sometimes struggle with patience. I'm just having a hard time understanding why they can't get along sometimes... Most of the time they play GREAT together, but I just don't get where kids learn to be mean to each other. But most of the time Joselyn and Landen are so sweet to each other. And honestly, neither one likes to be without the other and they say it. If Joselyn wakes up before Landen (which she often does) she asks for him over and over again, or sometimes tries to tell me he's awake when he's really not. Having two children this close together definitely has it's challenges here and there, but I love how they are best friends now. Love it SOOO much!

Landen is saying some awful cute things lately... he definitely doesn't talk as much as Joselyn did at this age, but he can definitely communicate. Today he was trying to tell me he wanted to brush his teeth. He first pointed to his teeth and said "teet" and I admired them and thought he was telling me his teeth hurt. Then he pulled me up and took me to his bathroom and I thought well maybe he said "drink" but then it hit me he wanted to brush his teeth! And sure enough, that was it. He was very satisfied that he got his point across.

He calls his paci "bobby" for some reason and his blankie "ki ki" so we've kind of nick-named them that too. I think it's adorable. I love this little dude.

Landen is very much a momma's boy. He LOVE LOVE LOVES to cuddle- which I love and he lets me pinch his very pinch-able cheeks and pulls his shirt up in the back and lets me "tickle" it. I just had to write down those few things because I remember- they grow quickly and change so fast. I'm so lucky to be Landen and Joselyn's mommy and to have such a great caring and sweet husband. I'm just blessed- what can I say? And I am feeling grateful today.

Our Old House...

It's always hard saying good-bye to home you built so many memories in. For us, it was a bitter sweet experience handing the keys over to someone else. We were glad to be moving into a larger place, but we were going to miss so much about the house. And it kind of tore us apart to know that someone would be painting over the walls we painted and tearing out the flooring we put in.

In all the moving mess, we accidentally took the Gas Fireplace key with us... so the gal who bought the place wanted us to bring it by if when we found it. In return, she said she would show us what she had done to the place and give us a grand tour. I, personally, was so excited about this. It was like being on an HGTV show! I also knew it would give me more closure about the place. Well, we found the key last week and today we stopped by our old place to get the grand tour.

Joselyn and Landen were both quite confused... Joselyn even said "No! I don't WANT to go home!" (she really loves the new house!) but once we explained to her we were just visiting, she was fine... especially when she met the little dog. Man was she cute! 14 years old and she still looked just like a puppy. I've never seen her so attached to an animal! Really! We had a difficult time leaving.

Anyway, the new owner's taste was very different than ours as far as decorating goes- but it WAS really really nice. I must say I really loved the hardwood flooring she put in the kitchen, the new fixtures, the granite countertops and the fenced in yard!! She let me take some pictures... and I'll try and put a before with it!

The living room before: (this was taken when we very first moved in- it was waaaay different when we left- new couch, different arrangements of frames etc- but it was the only picture I could find)

After: New carpet, new wall color. She said she was still working on the wall art.

The Kitchen- after: new sink and faucet, new counter tops, new lighting fixtures, new appliances... yeah, we were definitely kinda jealous of this kitchen!

The dining room- before: I definitely liked our chandelier better as well as our table.

The dining room- after: (those sippy cups are ours that we SOMEHOW left there? So confused, but glad we got them back!)

The master bedroom and backyard- AFTER. We definitely loved the fence- and would have done it ourselves if it wouldn't have been such a headache! (and she definitely said it was)

We were so glad to have had the chance to go back and see our house. We know not many people get to do that... and she even invited us back if we wanted to! She loved Joselyn and Landen (who couldn't?) and they loved loved loved her dog... so maybe. But I really doubt it. Looks like our first house together as a family is in good hands :)

As for our new house... I know you're probably wanting to see pictures. We are getting close to that point, but there is still a lot to be done! Not much longer though! (and it's still nothing all THAT fancy!)

Lists

I have always been a "Lists" kind of a person. I love making lists of all sorts of things... to-do lists, wish lists, shopping lists, goal lists, you name it. I would almost be embarrassed to admit this but I know that there are many others out there just like me. I had a missionary companion in Thailand who also loved lists and I remember making them with her. It was so much fun! Adam and I even started a list while I was on my mission of things we wanted to do together when I got back. A few years ago I also started a list on this blog of things I wanted to accomplish. Things got busy though and accomplishing those lists got put on the back burner.

But THEN! A fellow photographer here in Lexington, who also happens to be a super really nice guy who has helped me out with a few things here and there came out with a kind of cool contest. Part of the contest included registering at a website called the Day Zero Project and creating a list of 101 things to accomplish in 1001 days. It's a pretty cool site for list lovers! I thought it was a great time frame to work with- not a year, not a week, not 10 years but 1001 days. Just right to accomplish many of the things I want to accomplish. So I did it! And I am going to really work hard to accomplish these things- print it out in some cool way and display it in my office so I don't forget to work on the things. It took a lot of time and effort, but I think it was worth it.

So if you're NOT a list lover like me you may think this is a little silly, but I dare you to try it. It's fun :) Here's my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days!

1. Buy Joselyn a big girl bed

2. Wean Joselyn and Landen off their pacifiers

3. Finish Potty training Joselyn and Landen (have to re-train Joselyn!)

I made this list yesterday and I already accomplished one of them and that was #11 (Make a list of fun things I want to do with the kids). What the heck- I was in a list making mood yesterday and today and have been thinking about a lot of fun things to do this summer. I went back and read the post about what to do with a 1 and 2 year old where so many people had some great suggestions, and started my list. What a perfect time to start- new house with more space and a yard of our own- and the long summer days :) I thought it might give some of you out there some ideas too, so I will post that here too.
