After doing more research about how crabs like to have other crabs around, we decided to get 2 more. This time we were for slightly larger ones, and they are cute. The thing is, they are deathly afraid of us... maybe more so the kids, but they hide away all day. I haven't been letting the kids get them out too much because I've read crabs need a "de-stress" period. But on this particular day we were having fun with them. Joselyn let one of the new crabs, Dori, climb all over her. And then she held her... until it pinched her hand (which I told Joselyn she needed to keep her palm flat- they try to grab onto things and won't pinch if you keep your hand flat) It wasn't that big of an ordeal. Joselyn got over it almost immediately.
Then we let Dori and "Baby" (because she loves to put herself in corners) run around the playroom floor. Dori found a way up the baskets in the shelf. Great climbers! Baby found herself a corner and stayed there.
They've definitely been fun... but I think the kids are already bored with them. Wouldn't you know it?? I think it would have been best to keep the excitement of seeing them at the mall. The only great excitement we've had with the crabs was when the kids got 2 of them out and let them loose and forgot about them. Then they proceeded to dump out all the toys so as you can imagine- finding two colorful crabs among the mess was a task. We actually found one of them INSIDE a pillow case for a floor cushion we have! The other one was hiding behind a box.
Anyway, we'll continue to see how things go with our 4 little crabs!! (they LOVE rice cakes!!)
