Joselyn has loved her bath time since the day she was born. She splashes around and plays and it was always the one part of the day we KNEW we would see her happy. And Adam and I looked forward to it... to seeing her smile and be happy.
A few days ago, something happened that changed all that. She somehow slipped while seated in the bath landing face-first in the water. She definitely breathed some water in and it scared her to death. We immediately pulled her out as she choked on the water then spit a bunch of it out. I must say that Adam and I were just about as scared as she was if not more. I immediately remembered hearing about secondary drowning... how a little boy 'drowned' from getting water in his lungs after playing in the pool... and I was a little frantic. We decided to just keep a good eye on her. The next morning was when we captured this photo of her, which I posted a few days ago.
Drowsiness is one of the signs of secondary drowning so it was just yet another reason for us to be concerned about her odd behavior of falling asleep on the couch. Thankfully, she has been just fine and secondary drowning is now a fear of yesterday.
-BUT-
Joselyn has since then been scared of her bath. I mean the scream-on-top-of-her-lungs-frozen-solid kind of fear. We have literally been giving her 30 second baths the past few days, and they have not been the fun routine we had always looked forward to. So we brainstormed and asked a few people, and decided to do something different.
Adam put his swimming trunks on and semi- got in the tub with her tonight. They had so much fun playing that I think she totally forgot about her fear of the water. It worked like a charm. I think we can finally return to our fun bath time routine!! Let's just cross our fingers that she really IS over her fear of the bath water!
