Landen's baby blessing

I love baby blessing days. I love hearing the Fathers of sweet babies pronounce wonderful blessings upon their children that will help guide them through their life. It's even better when it's your own child. Words cannot describe the love I felt for my family on this day. The theme that seemed to run in testimony meeting today was 'family', and it really made me think about the love I had for my husband and children.

Landen was so sweet today. Poor babies have it so rough some times... adults dressing them in uncomfortable hot outfits pretty much just for looks. We bought Landen this adorable white tux for his baby blessing and despite how uncomfortable it may have been, Landen did not complain. He did not cry during the blessing, but instead stared up at all the faces of the men in the circle. Then he peacefully fell asleep in his daddy's arms. I love that boy. I even think it may have been his best day yet! Yes- he did get a little tired and fussy at one point but he's a baby and I expect that. But he was so content most of the time!

Adam did a beautiful job on the blessing. He felt he should keep it simple and basic... he blessed him with the willpower to make right decisions, and that he would listen to the things his parents would teach him. In these days where things are so uncertain for our children, it's a comfort knowing he has been blessed to stay on the right path.

After church we had a little get together at our home for family and a few friends. I had made some taco soup, cornbread and cupcakes. It all turned out so good I was pretty amazed. It was the first time in a long time that we have had so many people over at our place and I LOVED it. It was so much fun. I definitely want to do it more often. Anybody up for a rockband party one night??

Adam and Melanie were at their usual bubble wrap popping game on the iphones again... trying to beat Chelsea's high score, which they both did. I told Chelsea that Adam said "bring it" and to "not mess with Texas" so it looks like there is going to be a major competition going here.

Making me smile today...

Ever since she knew what one was, Joselyn has had an obsession with babies. BABY was her first real word. One of her favorite books is this little book about babies that she got from my friend Kasey. She sees a baby on a magazine, on TV or in person and she seriously goes crazy with excitement. I love that about her.

 

Landen is by far her favorite baby. She can't get enough of him... of hugging and kissing him. She seriously gets giddy around him. She is starting to play with him more... after watching me try to get him to smile today she went up to him, just like me, and with a big smile on her face and wide eyes said "ah-goo!" over and over again. I laughed so hard. How did she get so dang loveable?

If THAT wasn't enough... she spied an envelope of coupons (you know those ones you get from Gerber etc?) with a picture of a baby on it. She immediately went for it and in her excited baby talk started babbling words I didn't understand ending with a big "BABY! Awwww...." and with that she actually HUGGED the envelope and started patting it. Yes, I laughed so hard again.

The other day she found an old issue of Baby Talk (with a baby on the cover of course) and actually TORE the baby off and carried that little picture around with her most of the morning naming and pointing at the nose, eyes, ears and mouth. Those pieces of magazine eventually ended up on the floor where she walked all over them. Then I noticed that she had those pieces of "baby" stuck to her feet walking around like nothing was wrong. I let her walk around with the pieces of magazine on her feet for quite some time because it was making me giggly. I didn't want it to end... the running around with little squishy paper sounds in place of footsteps. She went about playing and running and climbing all the while oblivious to the humor of it all.  I finally felt a little cruel and decided I would just take a picture instead.  Now I can giggle everytime I see this picture.  I'm laughing right now.

Double Trouble

Guess who is 2 months old today? I'll give you a hint- it's not Joselyn (obviously)! Yep, Landen turned 2 months old today. It's going by even faster than it ever did with Jos! His first 2 months have been filled with a lot of challenges and today was no different.  We had a doctor's appointment for his first shots today... and since Joselyn was due for her 15 month appointment, we set their appointments up at the same time which meant TWO babies getting shots. Adam couldn't make it this morning, so I called my mom at the last minute and thankfully she agreed to come with me. I know I am so blessed to have her close by and available today.

To preface my story, let me just say that Landen did NOT sleep much last night. He wouldn't sleep any longer than a 30 minute stretch except for a 3 hour one from 12-3. In consequence, Adam and I didn't get much sleep either, but hey, that's parenthood for ya. He seems to be in a lot of pain, and once again we thought reflux may be the culprit. His RSV was all gone and he hadn't been coughing, so we were pretty sure that had nothing to do with it. Well after an examination, the doctor found he has an EAR INFECTION. Poor little guy... and let me just ask THIS question. Since I'm breastfeeding, WHY IS IT that my babies are always getting sick?? It was the same thing with Joselyn. It just breaks my heart. I just tell myself that if I WEREN'T breastfeeding, they would probably be sicker. Landen did pretty good though, even during his shots. Of course he cried, but he didn't SCREAM like Joselyn always did (and still does)

Height: 23 1/2 inches (68th percentile)

Now for Joselyn. Of course she screamed pretty much the whole time, but we were prepared. I seriously love our pediatrician. Dr. B blew up a glove and made a little 'balloon" for Joselyn to play with which cheered her up quite a bit. He also gave her a little cup and stick to play drums with. I think this is why time after time she comes back and still likes him... until he touches her at least.  I also had a sucker ready for her right after she got her shots- which we had the nurse do first so she wouldn't see Landen get hurt and not let us do anything at all. It worked. I hope those nurses get a lot of thank you's for all they have to deal with!

Joselyn has 4 more teeth which we didn't even know about! She never lets us look in her mouth, so we wouldn't have really noticed them, but it explains some days where she may have been a little dramatic. She has her 2 top canine teeth and two bottom molars. I was seriously starting to worry she wouldn't get any more teeth! Ha ha.

Height 31 1/2 inches (76th percentile)

So pretty much Landen is short and chubby and Jos is tall and skinny :) I sure do love my kids. It was definitely an adventure to take both kids to the doctor today, but thanks to my mom it was more bareable. Joselyn will do fine with her shots most likely, and Landen seems to be doing ok so far too. He got a prescription for Augmentin to treat his ear infection so hopefully he is on the road to cheerfulness. Nothing bums a mom out more than seeing her children uncomfortable!

My dad just got a 6 month job in Canada and is leaving this Friday. So last night the family got together. i put Joselyn in her "Grandpa's Cutie" onsie, and took some pictures of them together. I also took a video which I will post on the chelrissarea blog!

First day as stay-at-home mom!

What a blessing it is to be with my little Joselyn Love all day now everyday! Yesterday was my last day at work and today marks the first day of my new job as full-time stay at home mom. It was a little strange... it didn't feel like my last day. It felt like any other ordinary day at work. But today is definitely different... I feel giddy because I don't have to go to work and I've already had so much fun playing with Joselyn. I know that I made the right decision to be home with my daughter... it is right for me. Joselyn has been so cheerful and sweet this morning. I keep on telling her I will be staying home today and always with her... and she just gives me the biggest smile. It's like she understands...

Just now Adam and I were playing with Joselyn and I was "eating' her hands and belly (she didn't have a shirt on because I had just changed her diaper and out of her church clothes and she looked so cute and edible) when she let out a BIG giggle!! This is the first time we've heard her do that and we were beside ourselves!!! So we did it some more hoping to catch that cute giggle again when she let out a 5 second laugh/giggle fest. It brought such smiles to our faces!!! We haven't been able to get her to do it again just yet, but know this is a sign that soon she'll be laughing all over the place! We can't wait!
