I know I shouldn't say anything until we are actually IN the house but I am just so excited! There are many people who love where they live and could live there forever- that just doesn't seem to be me. Or maybe it's just that I don't have my dream home- and that may be a long shot from now before that happens. And that's ok. I just like a change of scenery every once in a while. After living somewhere for a bit I start to see the flaws of the design etc. and need something different. We are really not looking to buy at the moment, but definitely were wanting a change. We love so many things about our current home- the light, the open-ness, the loft/playroom area and the large rooms but there were a lot of things that were starting to get on our nerves. For example- there were only 2 bathrooms in the house, one on each floor. The downstairs bathroom was in the master bedroom! This got to be a pain- we didn't necessarily want guests walking through our bedroom each time they needed to use the bathroom so we would send them upstairs. Another thing was the driveway- it was sloped. The kids wouldn't play in the backyard because a neighbors tree dropped these large acorn type things in the yard that hurt their feet even with shoes on. Plus during the summer mosquitos were awful! So they would want to play in the front yard but we just didn't like that for safety reasons. Storage in the kitchen was also another issue. We had to start storing some food in the garage because there was not enough cabinet space and no pantry. I also don't like eat-in kitchens.
So we started looking. Just out of curiosity, I visited our landlord's website to see if they had anything available coming up that might suit our needs. This way we wouldn't have to hassle with a few logistics. We were THRILLED when we saw that a house just down the street from my in-laws would become available soon! The layout seemed perfect for us and we already liked the neighborhood. AND it had 3 bathrooms- one we could leave perfectly clean especially for guests. To make things even better, it was still the same monthly rent! JACK POT!! We saw it in person for the first time on Sunday and loved it even more. One thing I kind of hated about our current house too was the hardware. This is really trivial- I know... but I just don't like gold and every door and lighting fixture was in the cheap gold. This new place has all brushed nickel which is exactly what I love. Makes a huge difference to me! The rooms are a little smaller and there is no loft area, BUT there is a formal dining room/den which we will use as our office. OH oh oh. And there is a nice garden tub in the master bathroom! It's the little things! I know most of you probably don't get as excited about floor plans like I do but just in case you were a tad bit curious, here is the layout of our new place!
The place is by no means fancy or even our dream home, but we really do feel blessed that this came into our hands and we love it! It will be a blessing (especially with a new baby!) to have my in-laws just down the street as well, just a 2 minute or less walk away. Our landlord has pretty much given us the go and now we are just waiting for the current tennant to find a new place to live. So now I am busy dreaming up new spaces- again- for when we move into this new house! It's going to all go down early next year close to when baby comes so I know things will be a little stressful and rough but bring it on! I'm planning on putting my nesting instinct into good use!
